I have a friend I work with that lives in Singapore although I've never been there he has never, not once complained in any way about the Government there. I find it interesting because after reading your account you would think the people would talk about it. Perhaps it's the culture... they are just accepting of what happens. Glad I didn't have to deal with your ordeal. Makes one value having an ample credit line and a few good pieces of plastic so you can move from place to place.

All I can say is - Holy Missed Connections, Batman! I've had to deal with some hairy travel experiences myself, including having an airline "lose" my wife, but this one takes the cake. Glad you guys were able to make it back.

With all those negotiations you had to do, you probably have enough foreign policy experience now to qualify for Sarah Palin's cabinet :-)

OMFG. That is the most incredible travel story ever!! Lordie! Please tell me you will write United and use your exceptional writing skills to show how they put your lives in danger!

Also, my favorite sentence in your tale: "Cunning use of craft products."

So very glad you're back safe and with quite the adventure tale!

Thanks for posting Ian. That's pretty much what I expected you to be going through, though I assume it could've been worse if any of the connections were missed -- or you didn't have web access, your phone died, the bottom of the "convers" bag split open, etc.. ...when there's that many points of failure...

Roland -

We did consider a van to BKK, but the reports were that that journey had become a 19 hour one instead of the (slightly) more reasonable 10 hours it usually takes. Ah well, live and learn.
